What We Do
Tigwirane Manja Foundation delivers community-based primary healthcare to rural and marginalised communities across Malawi.
Â
Our approach is threefold: we take healthcare services directly to people, we build the capacity of local health workers and volunteers, and we address the underlying conditions — poverty, food insecurity, climate vulnerability — that prevent people from staying healthy.
Â
Everything we do is rooted in one belief: good health is a human right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford to travel.
About

Primary Healthcare Service Delivery
We improve access to essential healthcare for rural and hard-to-reach communities by bringing quality, affordable services closer to where people live. Our work ensures vulnerable populations—particularly mothers, children, and people with chronic conditions—receive timely care without the burden of long journeys.

We do this through:Â
RURAL HEALTH CLINICS
Building and running community clinics in underserved areas
MATERNAL, NEWBORN & CHILD HEALTH
Antenatal care, postnatal support, growth monitoring and immunisation
PREVENTIVE & CURATIVE HEALTH
Diagnosing and treating common illnesses, health screening and referrals
HEALTH EDUCATION
Community awareness on disease prevention, hygiene, sanitation, nutrition and healthy living
CHRONIC DISEASE MANAGEMENT
Screening and managing hypertension, diabetes and other long-term conditions
Community Outreach and Mobile Health Services
We bring healthcare directly to communities where distance, poverty and inadequate transport create barriers to care. Our mobile clinics reach people where they are, removing the burden of travel for families who can least afford it.

We do this through:Â

Regular outreach providing consultations, treatment, health screening and referrals
MOBILE MEDICAL CLINICS
Community awareness sessions on malaria, HIV/AIDS, maternal health, nutrition and sanitation
HEALTH EDUCATION CAMPAIGNS
Targeted services for people living with HIV and other high-need populations
SPEACIALISED OUTREACH FOR VULNERBALE GROUPS
Building grassroots capacity so local health workers can deliver ongoing care
COMMUNITY HEALTH VOLUNTEER TRAINING
Livelihoods & Community Resilience
Good health depends on more than medicine. We address the underlying drivers of poor health — poverty, food insecurity and climate vulnerability — by helping communities build sustainable livelihoods and strengthen their own resilience.

We do this through:
Climate-smart agriculture, household food production, nutrition-sensitive farming and dietary diversityÂ
FOOD SECURITY & NUTRITION
CLIMATE ADAPTATION & ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION
Sustainable land management, tree planting, water conservation and climate-resilient practices like permaculture and Black Soldier fly farming
ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENTÂ
Business training, vocational skills, financial literacy and support for cooperatives and community groups
